Altogether now… heeeeeeeeeeeave!
Not only is Sandra Kerr a bona fide British folk legend, she also played a big part in one of the most loved children’s TV programmes of all time… Bagpuss! Sandra played the parts of Madeleine the Rag Doll and (she’s keen to point out) Janey Mouse. And she also – in collaboration with John Faulkner – performed the charming folk songs that made that saggy old cloth cat’s tall stories such an unalloyed delight.
In early 2015, Sandra came to the Waiting Room to perform a special show, telling all about her extraordinary adventures in folk music; from her early years in the radical Critics Group (alongside Ewan MacColl and Peggy Seeger) to her legendary time on 1970s children’s television to her current work as the director of the folk choir, Wercasfolk.
It was a complete sell-out, and we’re thrilled that Sandra has agreed to come back for more! So, in this specially-updated show, expect more stories, more songs, and – in addition to the special Bagpuss decorations that Sandra festooned the place with last time around – we might even have a little slide show, with some charmingly nostalgic pictures from Bagpuss’s legendary sepia-tinted shop.
So come and join us for an evening of breadcrumbs and butterbeans! Altogether now, ‘We will mend it, we will mend it…’
